While the premise of the book is great, I found it to be a little forceful. While I reasonably understand that white carbs are not ultimately good for my waist-line, no allowance is made for those of us who cook everything from scratch and who include potatoes into a healthy and balanced diet. I understand that it is about a 30 day fast, but in some cases, I think that she goes too far. A better approach would have been to highlight those troublesome areas and explain how they effect us. I understand that it is about a 30 day fast, but in some cases, I think that she goes too far. A better approach would have been to highlight those troublesome areas and explain how they effect us. By taking this almost militant "all or nothing" stance, she looses credibility. I was hoping for a spiritual make-over in my food choices - not another "diet". I am seeking a more godly perspective in how I view food - not another brand of weight watchers. I love food and hate to see entire sections of the food pyramid cut out and vilified. Balanced eating is something that would serve all of us well for a life time. Follow her fast for 30 days and you will be right back on the yo-yo. ...more

I'll be honest, I cringed a bit when the book arrived in the mail. It had been a bad week, I was feeling a bit overwhelmed with life and other things.

The idea of sitting down to read a book about dieting, well, made me want to run to the kitchen to make a bowl of mac and cheese.

When I finally cracked open the book, I found a book that was easy to read, thanks to Shepherd's conversational writing style.

While I'm not ready to jump into her fast - I'm still trying to break the "fast food" grab and go - I can easily see myself using the devotional plan for the next 30 days.

Each devotion comes with a plan, an action plan and a truth treasure, to help reinforce the truth that we are princesses for the ultimate King - God.

I think the themes found in the devotions are things all women - regardless of age - need to hear. The other information - from the fast to the recipe - provides things for women to think about.

I like the premise of the book: you sign a covenant for 30 days to give up unhealthy eating in order to honour God, and then are provided with daily devotionals to help you work on your issues surrounding unhealthy body image.
However, there were a few things that annoyed me in the actual book. Particularly, Shepherd sets up initially that you should give up refined sugar and refined flour. That's what you sign the covenant for. Once you've signed that, a page or two after she starts including a

However, there were a few things that annoyed me in the actual book. Particularly, Shepherd sets up initially that you should give up refined sugar and refined flour. That's what you sign the covenant for. Once you've signed that, a page or two after she starts including all these other foods you can't have, such as potatoes and corn. I felt like someone changed the contract after I'd signed it.
(Also, I found that giving up the flour made absolutely no difference to how I felt. So since finishing I've tried to stay off sugar, but brought back the flour).
The actual devotional part I could take or leave. Quite frequently I didn't read them daily, but did like that they had action points and prayer.
I would recommend the general process to someone, and her wording of the covenant, but wouldn't force someone to read through the rest.

I love this book. I think some people who disagree are perceiving it wrong and not looking at it as a book that could help build our relationship with God. This book helped me get on track. I do not believe that the author intended the reader to eat strictly forever. This is a 30 day fast, i can honestly say i did it. What i received from the writer is encouragement to build my relationship and trust In Christ. In turn, helping me make more obedient , better choices that please Our King. Includi I love this book. Very good book. The devotionals were not all fitness or health related as I expected, but overall, I really enjoyed the book. The recipe section, I felt, was a bit skimpy and seemed like the same thing over and over again, but maybe that's just me. I've always liked a variety in my food choices. While I didn't agree with everything in the book, the majority of it was doctrinally sound. All in all, I would recommend it. Very good book. Really enjoyed this book. I used it as a devotional reading, not everyday, but over the course of several months. Really good info in here about feeling better about ourselves and bodies and taking better care of the body God gave us./

I used this book to help me with my first 30 days on Weight Watchers. Daily readings were short and designed to be motivational. The plan itself was easy to follow. I do suggest doing this with a partner, as it makes tough days easier to handle.

This was great. It's good to use as one is striving to do their diet. It helps to keep your mind on the Lord. I still apply what she shared in the beginning of the book. This was great.
